Oh, midwinter!
The shorter days. The longer nights. The colder temperatures. And our celebrations: Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa, the Winter Solstice, New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day. Celebrations of hope, of all the darkness holds, and of the soon to be returning light.
Scorpio is known for its, ummmmmmm, extreme emotions. What it likes, it likes a lot. What it does not like, it would rather destroy than endure. It is precisely that passion that helps Scorpio to power both the Harvest Season and the holiest time of year for many cultures.
Oh! Well, hello Virgo!
Funny how that first week of September arrives with such an, ummmmmmmm, impact. Shock and awe, even. Suddenly those shorter days, longer nights, and new routines somehow manage to bring such a profound sense of change.
And sometimes, urgency.
Hey y’all – it’s that time again (cue the sound of mad cackling…)!
Okay, breathe. From what I am hearing, many of you are feeling like the Mercury Retrograde had started awhile back, correct? And for some, it sounds like the last one never ended, like it has been going on pretty much all summer. Seriously.
Welcome to the Gemini New Moon: the Magic Moon. This one holds a lot of wisdom, a lot of wizardry, and a lot of joy. This is a time when you are acutely aware that your wishes have come true, are coming true, and will come true. The tricky part is that, in the immortal words of Stephen Sondheim, “…careful the wishes you make…. wishes come true, not free.” Because Gemini rules travel, words, wit, cunning and ingenuity - let’s follow him into the proverbial woods, and parse that out.
Oh, the Eclipses!
Historically speaking, there are probably no more confusing and controversial transits in astrology than those of the Solar and Lunar Eclipses. I often hesitate to write about things like this, about moments like now, because there is already so much online chatter I just don’t want to add to the noise. Sometimes I want to write but just can’t get to it because the intensity of the transit is really impacting people, so I am working more than usual.
Today, the New Moon, the Sun, Saturn, and Neptune are all in Pisces, the sign that shows us the many paths that lead to a soul’s redemption. And if you can really ground yourself and listen, a massive Pisces transit like this will show you the path to yours. Together, all these planets compel us to open our hearts and minds: to love and forgive, to imagine and embrace all the different ways redemption can come to us.
New Moons are always a time of new beginnings, a time to reset your head and reboot whatever operating systems you are running on. As always, at this time, we look to our ancestors and the natural world for guidance, insight, instruction, and inspiration. But there is a lot more going on this time, so let’s parse it out so we can make the most of the grace and the opportunities we have.
