Welcome to the Gemini New Moon: the Magic Moon. This one holds a lot of wisdom, a lot of wizardry, and a lot of joy. This is a time when you are acutely aware that your wishes have come true, are coming true, and will come true. The tricky part is that, in the immortal words of Stephen Sondheim, “…careful the wishes you make…. wishes come true, not free.” Because Gemini rules travel, words, wit, cunning and ingenuity - let’s follow him into the proverbial woods, and parse that out.

Today, the New Moon, the Sun, Saturn, and Neptune are all in Pisces, the sign that shows us the many paths that lead to a soul’s redemption. And if you can really ground yourself and listen, a massive Pisces transit like this will show you the path to yours. Together, all these planets compel us to open our hearts and minds: to love and forgive, to imagine and embrace all the different ways redemption can come to us.

Sometimes you have more options and opportunities than others; usually you have more than you realize. Let’s take a look at what yesterday's particularly relational, and values-driven New Moon has to offer. This New Moon does not offer you a lot of options, but the ones that exist are truly clear, extremely focused and – if you rise to them – will be very rewarding. As spring wanes and summer waxes, the possibilities, and opportunities to start over, to begin again are practically limitless in some extremely specific areas.

About every 2 ½ years, we have a moment like this – where there are 2 new moons in either 1 zodiac sign or 1 28-day period. Now is one of those times, so stop moving and look up. I know, Aries rules rapid, direct, and decisive forward motion, and slowing down right now can be difficult must less stopping. But stop moving - just for a moment. Be present for this. There are few things it would behoove you to sort through. Especially because this one is happening at 29 degrees. Known as the anarectic degree, it is the most powerful degree of each sign because it is the last degree of each sign. So, off we go!

All new moons are powerful. But there are ways in which the Aries new moon is the most powerful one of the astrological year. Of course, part of it has to do with domain of the sign itself, and the characteristics of its gender, element, and modality. As a male sign that rules the divine male archetype, as well as the archetype of the warrior, there is extraordinary strength and courage to be found here. Use it. As it is the first of three fire signs, it is an intense force to be reckoned with: agile and adept, driven to move freely. Be that. As a cardinal sign, it is assertive and initiating, pioneering and resourceful. Own that. But part of it has to do with Aries place in the wheel of the sky: it is the first sign of the zodiac. When you have the transit of new beginnings in the sign of new beginnings, well, there is just exponentially more power. Trust that.

Welcome to the Cancer New Moon. This one would have been a big one anyway, because three of the biggest planets of transformation and change (Pluto, Neptune, and Saturn) are retrograde. Because of the ways the shift in cultural consciousness is moving and has moved (and how that is blowing up my phone),  this one has taken a bit of a turn. As a result, I am doing a little something different with this newsletter. When the news broke and my phone started ringing early Friday morning, I said a prayer and I drew this card. Based on these things, and on the calls I have been getting, I am giving this newsletter more of a healing focus, because that is what seems to be needed. In terms of astrological math, the most rudimentary interpretation of this is that we all have massive opportunities right now to heal whatever deep soul wounds we have around women, women’s ways and wisdom, and the feminine face of power. Last night’s New Moon, the Sun, Mercury, and Chiron were all in Aries, the first sign of the Zodiac and the absolute, undeniable ruler of fresh starts and New beginnings. While every New Moon is a chance at a both, a New Moon in the sign that rules them gives you exceptionally powerful opportunities. Also today is a Total Solar Eclipse in Sagittarius, the second eclipse of a pair occurring this holiday season. Because of them, there has been and will be a lot of new information coming your way. Normally, we begin the visioning process this time of year: assessing what we have accomplished in the last year and what we want to accomplish in the next one. This process is always intense. This year it is much more so, as it is interwoven with the tangled threads of the ongoing global pandemic, the resulting social and economic crises, and a world struggling to find its way. The information provided by these eclipses, and the new beginning afforded us by the new moon, can make this a powerful and empowering time.

This year, the new Moon in Scorpio is part of a loose, rolling stellium involving the Sun, Mars and Mercury. Simply put, that is a lot of Scorpio, and Scorpio is the most intense and ambitious sign of the Zodiac. And well it should be. Scorpio is the sign that represents power, passion and purpose. Thankfully, as we enter yet another surge and another round of pandemic fatigue, the new moon is in Leo: a masculine sign of extraordinary strength and power. We are certainly going to need it. Additionally, there are more planets in masculine signs than in feminine. This requires extraordinary mindfulness in order to access our core strengths and integrate those strengths with the heart, the love and generosity that Leo is famous for. There are currently four planets - Jupiter, Saturn, Neptune, and Pluto - in retrograde, along with Chiron, and the North Node. This will aid us enormously in slowing down, so we can be more present with the moment, to review our intentions and actions, and choose more carefully. We are at Lammas, the beginning of the Harvest Season, which is always a time of reflection, leading to more appropriate self-expression and then even more reflection. Together, they remind us to choose carefully: the way we speak to our community members will either clean up old karmic messes or make more. Pluto is now retrograde in Capricorn, reminding us of right use of power. Saturn is retrograde in Aquarius, reminding us of our interdependence, and showing us how to better integrate our individual selves with our communities and the collective as a whole.
