Welcome Gemini New Moon, and all your mercurial magic. Part of your job is to help us better understand our ever-changing world, and how that creates change in our communities. Part of your job is to help us function better in it, and in them. Part of your job is to help us become absolute alchemists, so we can have a lot more fun with all of it. So, let’s get to it.
Along with Libra and Pisces, Gemini is a sign of great duality. One of the dualities of Gemini is the juxtaposition between love and a lack of true connection to community. On the one hand you have the sort of love and loyalty that twin Argonauts Castor and Pollux had for each other. Gemini loves fiercely, blindly, and often with no thought for safety or self-preservation. As a result, they can have a lot of problems with reality and discernment. And they can get themselves in a lot of trouble because of it.
And then, on the other hand, you have Mercury. The ruler of Gemini and the messenger of the Gods, Mercury is much more of an independent loaner. Tasked with carrying information back and forth between the Gods on Mount Olympus and the humans down below, Mercury struggled with not really belonging anywhere, and consequently, having no genuine community or connection to it. Was he sociable and popular? Yes. Was he loved and trusted? Not so much. Was anybody begging Zeus to work miracles on Mercury’s behalf? To stay more immortally connected to him? No.
The juxtaposition between a loving community and the lack thereof will be more intense now, during Gemini season. But so is your ability to identify and solve problems. Last night’s Gemini New Moon gives you a chance to look at your community and your relationship to it with fresh eyes. There is a massive Grand Trine in the air signs, which in and of itself is going to help you out a lot. AND the bottom of it forms a rare Kite to Neptune, who just entered Aries, which is even more helpful. You have some uncommon opportunities now. Take them.
A Kite pattern always begins with a Grand Trine — a configuration in which three planets form 120degree trine aspects with one another. Because signs that are 120° apart belong to the same element, a Grand Trine typically includes one planet in each of the three signs of that element (fire, earth, air, or water), spread across three different houses. In this case, the Grand Trine occurs in the air signs: Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius.
A Grand Trine forms an exact or nearly exact equilateral triangle when you draw lines between the three planets involved. When a fourth planet sits in direct opposition (180°) to one of those planets, the configuration gains an additional layer of harmony. This opposing planet is known as the Tail of the Kite — in this chart, that role is played by Neptune. From its position, Neptune forms two 60° sextile aspects to the other two planets in the Grand Trine, completing the distinctive Kite shape.
A Kite is a compelling blend of harmony and tension, inviting you to actively work with its energy rather than passively receive it. It symbolizes the process of transforming life’s challenges — represented by the opposition — into a pathway for expressing your innate gifts, which are held within the trines. This dynamic gives you the ability to rise above obstacles and pursue a higher purpose. With Gemini ruling community, there’s a strong push right now to understand your place within it on deeper levels. This includes the more immediate, everyday relationships governed by Gemini: siblings, cousins, inlaws, and neighbors. Given all that is happening now on a national level, our neighbors and neighborhoods are more important than ever.
Given the power of these transits and the proximity of the next Mercury Retrograde, there may be a number of sudden, eye-opening incidents and opportunities. They may seem to come up out of nowhere. So, if you find yourself having that experience, or a series of them, lean in. And in as much as you can without setting yourself up as a hostage or as a hideously codependent doormat, say yes. And then look at things from three angles.
The first has to do with your rights. You have the right to be loved, respected, and treated as an equal. When someone can’t do that, set firm, healthy boundaries until they can. Look at your relationships with fresh eyes. Identify where the boundaries aren’t working. Say so — plainly and graciously — and see whether a real compromise is possible. Always make the first move toward something better. For the people who do treat you well, acknowledge them. Tell them exactly what you value about who they are and how they show up, with you and for you.
Start now.
The second area to examine is your roles within your communities. This part can get tricky. There are the roles you want to play, and the roles you’re actually allowed to play — and those are not always the same. If a role works for you, keep it. If it doesn’t, give yourself permission to gracefully adjust it. Make a clear, respectful attempt to shift the dynamic and see what happens. If there’s no flexibility, take an honest look at your level of misery, your alternatives, and your power to choose something better. Then choose it.
Again, now is the time.
Last is your responsibilities. Some of that is going to depend on the karma you brought forward and aggressive you want to be in addressing it. The generics are these. You have a responsibility to be a decent human. You have a responsibility to treat others as you want to be treated. You have a responsibility to be kind and helpful to those who are less fortunate than you and especially to those who are suffering. You have a responsibility to be self-aware and situationally aware. You have a responsibility to participate in governance and to be a good citizen.
At this Gemini New Moon, remember that there is great potential for easy and abundant communication. The goal is to use this time to explore creative ideas for change that serves the highest good of all involved. Ask your Gods, guides, guardians, angels, and ancestors to help you to be your authentic self. Ask them to help you to work with your community to create more of the life you want in the world you want. Listen deeply to what you hear them say, and follow where they lead. And if you get stuck, call me.
We'll figure it out.
