OK, breathe and buckle up, y’all. We’ve got a lot of ground to cover. Writing this one has been a bit of a road race: it moves fast, has hairpin turns, and, if you are not careful, you can wipe out. It is quite a thing. An open mind, a laser focus, and a child-like sense of wonder, humor, joy, and delight are essential to success.

Anything but boring, the chart for this Gemini New Moon looks and feels so very mental, that it’s practically Aquarian. What it lacks in component parts, it makes up for in some seriously complex redundancy. So, take a look, take a breath, and let’s sort it out.

To have the Sun and the Moon conjunct in Gemini, the first air sign of the zodiac, would be mental enough. Having Mercury, the ruler of Gemini, so closely conjunct those two at 2° Gemini only adds to the phrenic intensity of this transit. On a really good day, the Sun and Moon conjunct Mercury in Gemini will help you put more love in your thinking and more thinking in your love. From that place, you have the capacity to see your world and its people much more clearly and accurately. From that place, you are a lot more likely to love both wisely and well.

Then, from there—a place of having a whole and full heart—you can seize and rejoice in any and all opportunities this New Moon puts before you. Especially those opportunities to play in the more humorous, joyous and wonderous aspects of the realms Gemini rules: alchemy, wizardry, magic, and communication—especially with the spirit world. On a good day, this will simply make you appear smart and confident, clear and masterful.

On any given day, this conjunction also can make you appear alternately oblivious and quite fond of your own opinions. On a bad day, it’s going to make you look fond of your own opinions to the point of arrogance. On a really bad day it’s going to make you stubbornly fixated on all the wrong things; and you will fight to the death for your right to remain so. On a really, really bad day, there will be too many things you want to do with and for too many people that you love—especially siblings, cousins, in-laws, and neighbors. You will steadfastly refuse to consider delegating, prioritizing, or using your magic in order to shorten the list. The end result will see you default to Gemini’s mutable nature: say yes to everything, don’t do anything well, and forget what a wizard you are.

A prominent Uranus can do the same thing, and we just happen to have one. At this New Moon, the ruler of Aquarius—the last air sign—is tacked on the end of the stellium in late Taurus, at 27°. The last signs and the last degrees of signs are said to be more powerful, as they enhance the opportunities for insights and epiphanies. But because Uranus rules surprises and sudden changes, this one can also exacerbate whatever problems you are trying to solve, so mind your mind. Especially in the areas that Taurus rules: money, love, and the values you give to them. And especially around the values you may or may not share with your siblings, cousins, in-laws, and neighbors.

If it feels like I am splitting hairs, here, perhaps it is because in some ways I am. Don’t overthink, but don’t not think, either. Don’t stress and obsess; but do choose your focus. There is a tragically underused phrase in metaphysics, “energy flows where attention goes.” If you focus on the things that upset you, you’re going to be upset, and those things will dominate your mental landscape, and consequently, your material plane existence.

On the one hand, it’s like housekeeping: you have to focus temporarily on the dirty bits in order to make your house clean, orderly, and tidy. But on the other hand, if you dwell inordinately, all you see is disarray. Be mindful of what you choose to focus on, especially in terms of anything in Gemini’s realm.

When you throw Uranus into a Stellium involving the Sun, the Moon, and Mercury, the only way you are really going to be able to make the magic you seek and the impact you desire is to really, really, really listen. Hey, lookie there! listening is another thing that Gemini rules. But really listening has three critical parts to it. The first part is being in a place of calm serenity so that you can both listen and hear. The second part is accepting what you hear and being able to deal with it in a healthy, constructive, effective way.

And then the third part is actually doing the healthy, constructive, effective thing. As you can see, there are a lot of places where this can break down. By the same token, there are a lot of places where the right intention and a little divine intervention can make you the Glinda the Good Witch of whatever Oz you live in.

Gemini is the ruler of alchemy, wizardry, and magic, and the Gemini New Moon is a time for you to take your abilities with them to the next level. So, hold that as your vision and your intention, because you are going to need it. The “silver tsunami” of aging baby boomers is breaking. Watch for its initial impact among extended families and real estate. Pay particular attention to sudden surprises and changes, especially around your relationships, and especially those relationships with your siblings, cousins, in-laws, neighbors, neighborhoods, and communities and community members. This one hits you where you live.

Adopting and adhering to some sort of daily gratitude practice will definitely shorten your learning curve. Some kind of daily practice—anything that retrains your mind to give the positive equal or greater time than the negative—is imperative. Especially now. In times like these and in the uncertain times to come, these practices can help you understand how to get there from here.

In closing, remember the attributes of the element of air—cerebral, mental abilities control emotions. But if you have too much air, things get too mental, and you become too scattered to create much of anything other than a very complicated mess. Or a series of them. There are at least three different astrological factors indicating that success at this Gemini New Moon is going to require significant mental discipline. But that does not mean you can’t have fun and a sense of humor about it. In the immortal words of Winnie the Pooh, “Think, think, think, it’s mind over matter!”

In as much as you can, keep bringing your thoughts and your mental focus to your intentions, the things in your life for which you are grateful, the things that bring you joy and meaning, and that you find delightful.
