Normally, life during Capricorn season is an exercise in the restoration of order. Normally.
During Sagittarius season, we are shown Truth. During Capricorn season, we are asked to reconcile it, to make peace with it, to do something with it. In the cold and stillness of the shorter days and longer nights, we find the spirituality of midwinter. It is a time of calm, clear assessment; of acknowledgement and acceptance of what is and what has been. Capricorn season is a multidimensional reality check. We are stepping into our overarching Truths—the whys of our being here and our unique and righteous karmic paths. Then, from this more lucid place, we can begin visioning ways to make things better—internally and externally.
This dynamic can make the transition from Sagittarius to Capricorn at the Winter Solstice quite the defining moment.
Normally.
This year, rare and significant planetary influences have made life more complicated and more consequential. One influence, as discussed in the December 2025 [JESSICA: pls link] newsletter, has been the ongoing influence of Mars. On a good day, Mars is quite the resolute individual. His archetypes are the trailblazing pioneer, the hero, the conqueror, the emperor. On a bad day, he is predictably unpredictable, angry, and erratic. He is the brute, the blunt instrument, the violent destroyer. Mars has been behind way too many of our bad days. Especially lately.
Further complicating matters is the conjunction of two other planets and their completely different energies: Saturn and Neptune. This transit occurs about every 36 years, and it is famous for radical changes—often ones we had been afraid of or avoiding for years, until the pressure becomes just too much to bear. Usually, this transit lasts between one and three years, depending on a number of variables. This current iteration has been building for the better part of the last year and will culminate in February. Tracking these transits through history teaches us volumes on the science of change.
The last time we saw this conjunction was in late 1988 to early/mid 1990. It coincided with challenges to Communist and Authoritarian governments, as well as to the concepts of deregulation and supply-side or trickle-down economics. Prior to that were the Saturn-Neptune transits of 1951–53, 1916–1918, 1881–1883, 1845–1847, 1808–1810, 1772–1774, and so forth. In each instance, the Saturn-Neptune conjunction coincided with an outright new beginning or heralded one, bringing major political, economic, and societal shifts.
Between Mars and the Saturn-Neptune conjunction, the 2026 Capricorn season is far from normal. Saturn-Neptune conjunctions can make things very slippery. It can be hard to figure out what is really true and what to do about it. The added pressure from Mars brings a sense of urgency and intensity, especially to any internal, interpersonal, and societal frameworks that are overdue for change. Normally, Capricorn season offers us a portal. This one, however, is an exercise in how to create positive, forward motion and best move through it.
As Saturn is the Lord of Karma and Neptune rules the Infinite Oneness, there is a part of this year’s process that is far more crucial than normal. In order to figure out our individual roles, rights, and responsibilities, let’s use the spirituality of the season. Winter is a time to honor the soul’s need for quiet, for deep reflection and introspection; to bask in the presence of the Divine. The coming spring brings the return of the light, and, with it, a sense of renewal and emergence.
